Metro Boomin is setting the bar extremely high for one of his upcoming projects by likening it to one of Kanye West’s most revered albums.

While Metro was working on new music over the weekend, one of his X (formerly Twitter) followers asked him if he’d be able to make an album similar to Ye’s 2010 LP My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The super-producer responded by saying he’s aiming to deliver a MBDTF-esque “vibe” on his first album following his Heroes trilogy, which includes 2018’s Not All Heroes Wear Capes and last year’s Heroes & Villains.

“Yeah my first album after the heroes trilogy is more of that vibe.. the title is [fire] too,” he wrote.

Released in November 2010 following the backlash to his Taylor Swift incident at the MTV VMAs the year before, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy reinstated Kanye as a pop culture darling and is regarded by many as his magnum opus.

Boasting appearances from a murderer’s row of artists and producers like JAY-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Pusha T, Kid Cudi and RZA, the album topped both the Billboard 200 and countless year-end lists while winning Best Rap Album at the Grammys.

As for Metro Boomin, his next album appears to be a highly-anticipated joint project with Future, which he’s promised will be “album of the year.”

The pair have combined for a slew of hits over the last decade, including “Mask Off,” “Low Life” and “Wicked,” as well as Drake collaborations “Where Ya At” and “Jumpman.”

Speaking of Drizzy, there appears to be a bit of friction brewing between him and Metro after the producer threw shade at Her Loss, Drake’s joint album with 21 Savage.

In response to a tweet reporting that Heroes & Villains is currently racking up more than twice the daily amount of streams than Her Loss, Metro wrote: “Yet Her Loss keeps winning rap album of the year over H&V. Proof that award shows are just politics and not for me. Idc about awards honestly, the true award and REWARD is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to people’s everyday lives.”

Drake appeared to subliminally respond to Metro on his Instagram Stories by quoting JAY-Z’s “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love)”: “Damn. little mans, I’m just tryin’ to do me/ If the record’s two mil, I’m just tryin’ to move three.”
