The wait is finally over! ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ flies into theaters on May 27 after its original June 2020 premiere date was pushed back four times due to the coronavirus pandemic. The USS Midway in San Diego, California, served as the location of the world premiere held on May 4, 2022.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is the sequel to the original ‘Top Gun’ film, which was released in 1986. Tom Cruise, 59, returns as his iconic character of Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell with enemy-turned-respected opposer Commander Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky’s character being brought to life once again by Val Kilmer, 62. Other notable names appearing in the film include Miles Teller, 35, Jennifer Connelly, 51, Jon Hamm, 51, Glen Powell, 33, Lewis Pullman, 29, and Ed Harris, 71. The movie was directed by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Jon, who plays the role of Vice, promised fans the movie would be worth the wait. ‘This is a movie that you want to see in theaters,’ he previously told Entertainment Tonight. ‘I think when people start seeing this in the theaters, and they see it big and loud, and they understand what kind of experience it is, they’re gonna forget about the last two years.’
